- British Airways rebranded its frequent flyer scheme, The British Airways Club, changing elite status qualification from flight numbers to spending targets.
- Despite new spending requirements, thousands of members who had not met the criteria were mistakenly informed their elite status would be extended for another year.
- IAG Loyalty, which runs the scheme, attributed this error to a ”technical issue” that incorrectly told fewer than one per cent of silver status members and above they had retained their status.
- These affected members, who were wrongly told their status was extended, will now be downgraded from 1 May as originally scheduled.
- IAG Loyalty will contact the affected customers in the coming days to apologise and reinstate their correct, lower tier status.
