Britannia has been named the worst hotel chain in Britain, for the 10th year in a row. In a survey conducted by consumer group Which?, the hotel chain was ranked two out of five stars for cleanliness, comfort, value for money and among other things - giving it just 56 per cent for overall customer satisfaction.
Across the country there are 61 Britannia hotels, including Nottingham. Currently, the hotel - located on St James' St - is in use for asylum seekers.
Last week, NottinghamLive spoke to various asylum seekers seeking refuge at the hotel as they opened up about the tragedies they have faced. One mother said they get £8 a week and that most of the time, "we spend it on shampoo and nothing else".

Another, Ibrahim Ali, said he left his homeland in Somalia when he was only 20. Now at 28 years old, the heartbroken refugee said he has only spoken to his family over the phone.
On TripAdvisor, the Nottingham Britannia Hotel possesses a two out of five stars, with it coming in at number 40 in the list of top 44 hotels in Nottingham. One review on the website, by Bors J, stated: "I gave 1 point, because I not able to give them 0..." Another left by Samdaz1408 added: "I'm not a snob but this hotel is a joke."
In the Which? survey, participants paid an average of £89 per night for a Premier Inn stay, compared with £119 at a Britannia hotel. Guy Hobbs, editor of magazine Which? Travel, said: “With a decade of dismal reviews cementing its place as one of the UK’s worst hotel chains, our results suggest that Britannia should be avoided at all costs.
“With the average price of a UK hotel stay now costing a fifth more than it did last year, travellers want to be sure they are getting the best possible experience for their money.
“Our results show that price isn’t necessarily an indicator of quality, and many respondents reported fantastic stays with brands including Premier Inn and smaller chains like Warner Hotels.”
Meanwhile, Jurys Inn said it received “high satisfaction scores” from more than 213,000 guest reviews so far this year. According to the PA News Agency, Britannia did not respond to a request for comment.
