Brit buried in unmarked grave after dying suddenly while on holiday in Cape Verde

  • A British widow had to bury her husband in an unmarked grave in Cape Verde after he died from an illness contracted during their holiday .
  • Colin Timson, 74, died in July 2024 after falling ill at the Riu Funana resort, with his death certificate citing acute gastroenteritis and septic shock.
  • Law firm Irwin Mitchell represents over 2,500 people who have reported illnesses, including salmonella and E.coli, after holidays in Cape Verde since summer 2022.
  • Among these cases are the families of 10 individuals who died from gastric illnesses on holidays booked through Tui, with legal action planned against the travel company.
  • Another British holidaymaker, Laurence Brownlie, 67, died in June 2024 at the Meliá Llana Beach Resort and Spa, with his family raising concerns about resort conditions.
