Bristol weather for May bank holiday as city set to be as hot as Rome

Bank holiday season is in full swing with the first of three long weekends commencing today (April 29). Whether you're kicking your feet back or planning a barbecue, Bristol is welcoming some warmer temperatures this weekend.

On Friday, the Met Office confirmed warmer and more humid conditions are on the way - but the scorching heatwave that Spain is currently experiencing isn't expected to hit the UK. After a cool start to spring, meteorologist Alex Deakin has confirmed that the outlook is more positive as we move into May.

Back in Bristol, today we saw the mercury climb up to 18°C although the sun struggled to shine through, on a mostly overcast day. Temperatures are predicted to drop slightly on Sunday (April 30) with a very small chance of rain in the afternoon.

On Monday, Bristol weather looks set to be as hot as Rome reaching highs of 18°C by the late afternoon. It will remain overcast despite the warmer temperatures with the chances of sunny intervals throughout the day.

Currently, the Met Office's long forecast for Bristol doesn't stretch far enough for King Charles' coronation ceremony next Saturday (May 6), but Friday is currently looking overcast but dry. Here's hoping the rain will stay away for the coronation weekend where a number of outdoor events are planned around the city, including street parties, picnics and open-air screenings.

Let's take a look at the Met Office's regional south west forecast:

Today

Low cloud and mist burning back to coastal regions, then many places turning brighter through the morning with sunny intervals. A few heavy showers breaking out by the afternoon, but many places staying dry. Feeling warm during any sunny spells. Maximum temperature 19°C.

Tonight

A few heavy showers continuing this evening, these mostly in the west. Patchy low cloud and mist developing overnight with the chance of some showers continuing, mainly in the west. Minimum temperature 6°C.

Sunday

Isolated showers soon developing more widely with slow-moving and heavy downpours likely by the afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible in a few places but feeling fairly warm in any brighter spells. Maximum temperature 17°C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday

Drier on Monday albeit with isolated showers still possible. Becoming settled and mainly dry on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rather warm by day but some cool nights with possible fog patches.
