Bristol's best breakfast and brunch spots if you live in Fishponds and Downend

Bristol is quite often famed for it's food and it's no secret that the city centre is home to most of the gems highlighted. But, smaller spots outside of the centre are not to be ignored.

Whether it be north or south Bristol, or the suburbs to the east and west, the city is full of indies that are serving up top class breakfast and brunch offerings. And one place that is full of small cafes serving dishes that are big on flavour is BS16, particularly in Fishponds and Downend.

As someone familiar with these suburbs, I've explored many local eateries between the hours of 9-1 looking for the perfect meal to start my day. And I've left each establishment satisfied, time after time.

And even if you're not a local, it's nice to escape the hustle and bustle of the centre to explore new pastures from time to time. Here are some of the best places to enjoy breakfast, or brunch, in BS16:

Grounded

747-749 Fishponds Road, Bristol BS16 3UP

Grounded is the perfect spot for a buzzing weekend breakfast. They not only have a cosy cafe but their outdoor area means there's always an adorable dog accompanying you whilst you eat.

Grounded have an extensive brunch menu too, with a range of dishes and drinks on offer too. Their pizzas are easily a favourite of mine.

FED Cafe

A few of the lunch options on offer at the new Fed cafe in Fishponds (Bristol Live)

755 Fishponds Road, Bristol, BS16 3UP

FED is well loved across the city and so it was no surprise that many were delighted to learn they were coming to Fishponds. We visited them following their opening and gave them five stars very easily.

Their brunch and breakfast options will leave you spoilt for choice and like us, we bet you won't be able to leave without asking for a sweet treat to go. Their coffee is second to none, too.

The Crafty Egg

780 Fishponds Rd, Bristol BS16 3TT

Locals have been delighted in recent months as Fishponds has welcomed some brilliant new dining locations. And one of these is The Crafty Egg.

The café is known for its impeccable menu as well as the plants that they sell. And it is ranked as the best place for brunch in Bristol on Tripadvisor and the fourteenth highest-rated restaurant in the city overall.

The new Fishponds café has opened inside a former pub, and it has been billed as a much bigger site. In an update on social media, the owners told Bristolians what they could expect in the branch.

They've really branched out and are now serving up pizzas and more in the evening, but their signature morning menu remains as brilliant as ever.

Porto Lounge

765 Fishponds Rd, Bristol BS16 3BS

Porto Lounge is just one of Bristol's Loungers branches. They serve undeniably good breakfast and it's evident by the fact that the Fishponds branch is always jam packed.

One thing that certainly stands out about the Porto Lounge is the number of options they have on offer for veggies and vegans. And, don't fear - meat eaters are well catered for too.

The Beehive

14 Badminton Rd, Bristol BS16 6BQ

The Beehive is best known for it's fantastic freak shakes, but their food is not to be ignored. Their veggie full English is my favourite in the area by a mile.

And, their child friendly options make it the perfect place to bring little ones. And why not finish off with a shake to wash it down?

Mokka

Unit 6, The Willows, Shopping Centre, MOKKA, Bristol BS16 5UJ

Mokka is a newer addition to Downened and it has certainly had a warm welcome by locals. Tables are always full and on visiting you'll know why.

Staff are friendly and the food is always tasty. The cocktails are good too, if you want to start early!
