An investigation into how a fire at Bristol's derelict Grosvenor Hotel was started will begin later today. Emergency services received "a large volume of calls" at around 10pm last night regarding the blaze on Victoria Street, Bristol which resulted in an evacuation from a neighbouring building.
It has since been confirmed by Avon Fire and Rescue service that the cause of the fire is currently "unknown" and an investigation will be carried out later today (19 October.) A spokesperson added that fortunately, there were no casualties following the hotel fire.
Members of the public were also asked to stay away from the scene last night while fire crews tackled the huge blaze. Fire services attended the scene from eight separate stations situated across Bristol. Although the blaze was "safely extinguished," a cordon remains in place.

Avon Fire and Rescue service updated the public throughout the evening through to this morning on social media giving updates on the latest situation. Today on Twitter it stated: "All roads surrounding Temple Way that were closed due to this incident have now reopened. Thank you to all local residents and road users for your patience."
In a fresh update, a spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "Our Control Room received a call at 21:58 regarding an incident on Victoria Street in Bristol city centre and have taken a large volume of calls. On arrival, crews from Temple, Bedminster, Hicks Gate, Kingswood, Patchway, Avonmouth, Bath and Weston-Super-Mare found a fire on the ground floor of a derelict building.
"Firefighters have safely extinguished the blaze. There were fortunately no casualties. A number of people were safely evacuated from a neighbouring building.
"The cause of the fire is currently unknown, fire investigation will begin later today (19.10.22) A cordon remains in place restricting access to the building."
