'Bring him home!' — Manchester United fans make wildcard Memphis Depay transfer plea

With Cristiano Ronaldo asking to leave Manchester United, fans are wondering who will play up front for Erik ten Hag this coming season. United have insisted that the Portuguese forward is not for sale this summer, but if an acceptable offer comes in then they may be forced to sell.

If Ronaldo was to depart, this would leave Anthony Martial as United's only striker going into Erik ten Hag's debut campaign. And given the fixture congestion on the horizon for Ten Hag's side, this simply cannot be the case. But who is available on the market to solve the team's problems?

United fans are growing frustrated with the club's dealings with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong, but some have suggested that while they are negotiating for the midfielder, they should also try and bring Memphis Depay back to the club from Barcelona. Depay left the club back in 2017 after failing to make an impact under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

However, since his departure from United, he has rediscovered the form that impressed so many at PSV Eindhoven, scoring 76 goals in 178 games for Olympique Lyon and 13 in 38 for Barcelona. His playing style while playing up front is similar to how Dusan Tadic played under Ten Hag in the 2018/19 campaign that saw Ajax reach the Champions League semi-final.

Given Depay's form, since he left Old Trafford, some United fans are keen to give him a chance for redemption at the club. And since Barcelona have Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and have just signed Robert Lewandowski, the club should be willing to sell him. The fans let their thoughts be known on social media:
