'Bring him home' - Borussia Dortmund update on Erling Haaland sends Man City fans wild

Manchester City fans can barely contain themselves after a huge Erling Haaland update was dropped by Borussia Dortmund.

Suggestions that Haaland could be heading to the Etihad in the summer have been growing this week. The Manchester Evening News understands that, while talk of personal terms being agreed is slightly premature, discussions between the player and City have taken place.

City are seen as being in pole position to land the sought-after striker, with his release clause in Germany able to be triggered this summer. And it seems things are progressing nicely for the Blues judging by Dortmund adviser Matthias Sammer’s comments on the potential transfer.

Speaking on Amazon Prime (via Goal ), Sammer was asked how Haaland could work with Pep Guardiola, to which he replied: "They will both benefit from each other. Because Pep, of course – I was able to experience him for three years – has a certain idea.

"I can also imagine dealing with a centre-forward, no question. But he will also have to learn from the centre-forward."

Asked whether it was a done deal, Sammer retreated slightly, although he still confirmed City’s interest. "I didn't hear anything today, yesterday, the day before yesterday," he said. "I know City is after him. The numbers – I had whiplash! I passed out. My wife picked me up again. Accordingly, it is possible.”

Those comments have sent City fans into overdrive. With their side targeting a new striker in the summer, it seems they could be getting one of the biggest stars in Europe.

The latest reports suggest Haaland would become the Premier League’s top earner were he to make the move to the Etihad. Having targeted Harry Kane last summer, Guardiola looks to have turned his attentions elsewhere, with Haaland’s affordable release clause meaning the transfer fee would prove no barrier.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have also been linked with his signing, but Barcelona look to have dropped out of the race. The Catalan club admitted last week the striker’s financial demands may price them out of a deal.
