'Bridezilla sister-in-law scoffed at my 'boring' wedding - my reply left her in tears'

A woman whose sister-in-law went from a sweet girl to a 'full-blown bridezilla' after her brother proposed wasn't impressed by the way she acted in the run-up to her wedding. Beforehand, she'd been included in all family events, however, her controlling behaviour has since resulted in some of her new in-laws distancing themselves from her completely. Even some of her close friends have now deserted her.

When it came to planning her own wedding, the 25-year-old woman took a much more chilled-out approach by comparison, deciding upon 'a small and intimate wedding with only family and really close friends'.

Unlike her sister-in-law before her, she had 'no time or desire to micromanage every little thing about the wedding', and preferred to instead focus on having a long, relaxing honeymoon. When her sister-in-law scoffed at her 'bland and boring' ceremony, she didn't hold back on telling her exactly what she thought of her, leaving her in tears.

Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username u/SouthernPaper1400, the new bride wrote: "We chose to have our wedding in the huge backyard of my grandparent's house and they were extremely happy we did.

"Our grandparents, parents, siblings, and friends all made speeches and we were showered with love and blessings. The food was awesome and everybody danced till midnight. We all had a great time."

After returning from her honeymoon last week, she headed over to her mother's house to show her some pics. It was then that her sister-in-law came by, and started causing trouble.

She continued: "As I was talking to mum about how happy my grandma was on the day of my wedding, my sister-in-law started making fun and mocking me, saying she never thought we were such penny pinchers and that there was no theme or colour scheme or any thought given to making the day special and I would not even want to see the bland boring pics from the day down the years.

"I tried to avoid saying anything but the photo part really got me. I, with a smile, said 'Well I may or may not look at the pics, but whenever I will, I won't wonder why all these people who loved me so dearly cut me out of their lives and why I am not welcome in their homes anymore?'"

Her sister-in-law then turned on the 'waterworks' and headed off. Her parents feel she had it coming, but her brother has urged her to 'apologise and move on', with the tension between the two women leaving him in somewhat of a 'tight spot'.

One fellow Reddit user commented: "It sucks that your formerly pleasant sister-in-law has seemingly gone off the deep end. It’s obvious that her priorities and perspective are wildly out of whack. You were not wrong to point that out.

"I would much much rather have been a guest at your wedding than hers"

Another advised: "You said nothing wrong. She is just jealous that your wedding was something people will think of as fun and loving, whereas her wedding will always be the unpleasant one. If she is so sad about the relationships she has destroyed, then maybe she shouldn’t say mean things."
