BRICS film festival award for 'Aparajito'

KOLKATA: 'Aparajito', the Anik Dutta film that is inspired by the story behind the making of Satyajit Ray's 'Pather Panchali', has won the special jury award at the 2022 BRICS Film Festival. The jury for this festival included Indian director Nila Madhab Panda, Russian film scholar Nina Kochelyaeva, Brazilian film curator llda Santiago and South African producer Thandi Davids with Chinese screenwriter Su Xiaowei serving as the jury president.

Talking about 'Aparajito', jury member Nila Madhab Panda told TOI that it is "a very smartly made film of the past on the greatest maestro". "Jeetu Kamal was superb. I got so glued seeing old Kolkata and the rural landscape. The black and white imagery mix created a nice vintage canvas," he said. Kamal told TOI: “Any award is special and I’m happy that an international festival is recognizing a Bengali film. Credit goes to the director’s vision and the producer’s backing for making a film this way. I got to work in an atmosphere that helped me take out the best.”
