Rishi Sunak denied on Thursday there had been a “broken promise” on Brexit despite the failure to deliver the much-trumpeted US-UK free trade deal seven years after the referendum on quitting the EU.

The Prime Minister was grilled about the lack of such a landmark pact ahead of talks in the White House with Joe Biden.
