BrewDog boss seeks new investments

BrewDog's chief executive has put out a call for Scottish start-ups to get in touch for potential investment opportunities.

In a LinkedIn post, James Watt said that along with running the Ellon-based brewery, he also likes to back entrepreneurs.

"Most of the businesses I invest in are either focussed on sustainability or personal wellness," he wrote.

"I am always on the lookout for new investments as well as opportunities to try and use my experience with BrewDog - both the good bits and the bad bits - to help other entrepreneurs on their journey."

Watt then opened himself to offers, stating: "If you have an ambitious start up or small business and are looking for investment to help take your business to the next level please get in touch."

The post also listed some existing investments, in many of which Watt was the very first investor.

His portfolio includes:

  • Monk – a new British ice bath company looking to democratise the extensive benefits of cold-water immersion.
  • Cogo – an app that provides carbon footprint management products that look to empower individuals and businesses worldwide to measure, reduce and offset their impact on the climate.
  • Dash – a fruity infused water with simple, ethical ingredients - as well as no sugar, no calories and no sweetener.
  • Firstbase – a start-up led by a fellow Aberdeen entrepreneur, which is designed empower remote working with the best physical equipment. "I believe this business is going to be the next Scottish unicorn," Watt stated.
  • AKT – a new UK-based personal care brand, starting with a natural deodorant Balm that is both vegan and cruelty-free, as well as being recyclable and plastic-free.
  • Skedadle - a Scottish start up looking to gamify sustainable travel, allowing people to earn money by playing games while on sustainable forms of transport.
