Brentford 2-2 Tottenham unfolded in a chaotic Sunday afternoon draw.
The post-Harry Kane era began in west London, as Spurs played their first competitive match under new boss Ange Postecoglou. Losing their record goalscorer to Bayern Munich on the eve of the new season was an extremely tough start to another Premier League campaign for Tottenham, but they showed moments of genuine quality, albeit they could not break down a resolute Brentford side in the second half.
Debuts were handed out to the likes of new signings Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and James Maddison, who shone in Kane’s old No.10 jersey, providing assists for both Spurs goals. Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal were the scorers.
The Bees had Bryan Mbeumo fit as they continue to deal with the absence of Ivan Toney, who is serving a betting suspension. And Mbeumo found the net from the penalty spot, with Yoane Wissa also on target as the two London clubs played out this entertaining draw. See how it played out on Standard Sport’s live blog below.
