A young man has died after being stabbed inside Brent Civic Centre in Wembley, prompting a murder investigation and a major police response at the council headquarters.

Emergency services were called to the building on Engineers Way at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 25 August, after reports of a stabbing. Officers found the victim suffering from stab wounds, but despite efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Metropolitan Police, the victim is believed to have been a teenage boy or a man in his early 20s. His identity has not yet been confirmed.

The incident happened inside the building, which houses Brent Council offices as well as a public library. Staff, residents and visitors were evacuated following the attack, while emergency services secured the area.

Police Launch Murder Investigation

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched. Officers are working to establish exactly what led to the stabbing and identify the person responsible.

Sky News reported that police were called to Brent Civic Centre shortly after 2:25 p.m., with the victim found suffering from stab injuries. The force has not announced any arrests in connection with the killing.

A Section 60 order has also been put in place, giving officers additional stop-and-search powers in the area as detectives continue their investigation. Police have said there is currently no indication that the incident was terror-related and have urged members of the public to avoid the area while enquiries continue.

Civic Centre Closed After Fatal Attack

The stabbing caused significant disruption at one of Brent's main public buildings.

The civic centre was evacuated after the attack and remains closed while police examine the scene and gather evidence. The building normally serves thousands of council employees, residents and visitors.

The presence of the victim inside such a busy public building has also raised concerns among people who witnessed the incident. The BBC reported that the stabbing took place at the council headquarters, with emergency services rushing to the scene after receiving reports of an attack.

Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt expressed his condolences to the victim's family and those affected by what he described as a deeply distressing incident.

No Arrests as Police Hunt Killer

Detectives are now appealing for information that could help establish what happened before and during the stabbing.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were carrying out extensive enquiries and maintaining a heightened presence in the area. Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage from inside and around the civic centre, while witnesses who were in the building at the time are being spoken to.

The victim's family has not yet been publicly identified.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, particularly people who may have seen the victim or suspect around Brent Civic Centre shortly before the attack.

The killing comes amid renewed concern over knife crime in London, although police have not suggested that the incident is connected to any wider pattern of attacks.

For now, the circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain unclear. Detectives are continuing to piece together the events that led to the young man's death as the murder investigation develops.
