Nottingham Forest aim to tie FA Cup hero Ryan Yates to a new deal this month, but Brennan Johnson is in no rush to commit.
Homegrown midfielder Yates, 24, and winger Johnson, 20, are in fine form this season.
But the pair are both out of contract at the City Ground at the end of next term.
Championship promotion hopefuls Forest have opened talks to tie the pair down on new long-term deals.
Both stars have Premier League suitors after Yates scored his sixth of the season against Huddersfield in the Cup on Monday night.
Johnson has 11 goals and six assists and is pushing to start Wales’ World Cup play-off later this month.
But only Yates, whose winner set up a home FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool, has so far indicated he is willing to negotiate a three-year extension.
The star is proud to have come through the club’s academy under Gary Brazil but wants any new deal to reflect his value at the club as one of boss Steve Cooper's most consistent and dependable men.
Johnson, meanwhile, is not rushing to sign after Forest rejected a big-money bid from Brentford in January and the ace, whose father David is a former striker, is also fancied by Spurs.
This month is shaping up to be crucial for Johnson with promotion-chasing Forest in the FA Cup at home to Liverpool in the quarter-finals on Sunday March 20.
The Welsh international, who has seven caps, is also expected to feature in his nation’s World Cup play-off semi-final at home to Austria in Cardiff on March 24.
Yates is yet to receive any international recognition but his stock is rising sharply.
Boss Cooper assessed: “I am just so happy he is getting the recognition around the stadium.
“When they sang his name a couple of games ago and the cheer when he gets man of the match - no-one deserves that more than him.”
David Beckham - a former teammate of Johnson’s dad at Manchester United - is taking a keen interest in Johnson's his career, while Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently claimed a player like Johnson could be just as good as new Liverpool signing Luis Diaz.
But boss Cooper believes Johnson will not be affected by hype and uncertainty over his future.
Cooper said: “I don’t worry one bit about any side-shows going on around him.
“As for contract talks, I am sure there is stuff going on in the background but my job and Brennan’s job is just to work as hard as we can to play well and win as many games as we can.
“We’ll leave the other stuff to other people.
“I am very happy with Brennan.
“He has been getting the goals for us recently and as always it is about getting ready and looking forward to the next game.”
