Leeds United made no senior signings in the January transfer window. With the Whites tumbling back into relegation danger and their injury crisis continuing to cause issues, it looks a bigger missed opportunity by the day. However, it wasn't for want of trying, as Victor Orta made a concerted attempt to bring Red Bull Salzburg's Brenden Aaronson to Elland Road.
Orta and Marcelo Bielsa identified the US international as the perfect player to help refresh Leeds in the attacking midfield area and their second bid was said to have crossed the £20million threshold. Salzburg held firm though, not wanting to lose the player mid-season, particularly as they had made the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in their history.
Since January ended, the American has been on glittering form for Salzburg, providing a goal or assist in every single game for the club and proving that he is concentrated on his football, rather than transfer speculation. Whilst Leeds plan to return for Jesse Marsch's former charge Aaronson in the summer - presuming they survive in the Premier League - if his recent form continues then expect him to have many more suitors.
