Brenden Aaronson was cruelly denied a debut goal as Leeds United beat Wolves 2-1 at Elland Road. The Whites came from behind to secure an opening day victory against Bruno Lage's side.
Daniel Podence gave Wolves the lead after just six minutes, before Rodrigo equalised midway through the first period. Jesse Marsch's side took the lead with 16 minutes to play, and Aaronson wheeled away in celebration, thinking he'd opened his account for his new club.
Patrick Bamford put a low ball in across the face of goal, and it appeared that summer signing Aaronson had got the all-important touch as the ball crossed the line. However, the goal was later awarded as an own-goal by the Premier League Goal Accreditation Panel, with the final touch coming off Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri. Bamford has been officially awarded with the assist.
