Brenden Aaronson offered new role after Premier League transfer approach

USMNT midfielder Brenden Aaronson may be offered a route back to the Premier League following Leeds United's final day relegation from the top flight.

The 22-year-old represented something of a coup for the Yorkshire outfit last summer, with the 32-time international having arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for £24.7million. Leeds United became an enclave for American talent over the course of last year with then coach Jesse Marsch having also brought in compatriots Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie.

However, despite the fanfare that accompanied these signings, they were unable to beat the drop after the dismissal of Marsch in February. In all, Aaronson endured a difficult first campaign and scored just once in 40 appearances in all competitions in a season to forget for the Elland Road club.

Ultimately, the appointment of Javi Gracia as Marsch's replacement failed to really get going after a promising start and he was dismissed, with Sam Allardyce taking the club down after four games in his post. Relegation on the final day of the campaign after a 4-1 dismantling by Tottenham meant the one-time England manager was also shown the door.

Now, Fulham look set to offer Aaronson an escape route out of the EFL Championship following an otherwise disappointing maiden season in England. Despite Leeds' struggles, it appears that Marco Silva is keen to bring the young American to Craven Cottage, according to the Daily Mail.

As per the report, the Portuguese boss sees the the former Philadephia Union star as a perfect reinforcement in the 'number 10' position as he looks to strengthen his squad this summer. The West London club was one of the surprise packages of last season as the newly promoted team spent the majority of the season in the top half of the table before finishing in tenth place.

Leeds United could well struggle to hang onto Aaronson, with a clause in the player's contract stipulating that he would be able to depart on loan if the team was relegated from the top flight. The US youngster could well lead an exodus from the Yorkshire club, with a host of stars likely to depart.

Fulham are also keen on landing the services of long serving Manchester United midfielder Fred, with the 30-year-old potentially available this summer for as little as £20 million. According to the Telegraph, the Cottagers could see him as an option if they can reach a compromise over a potential fee.

According to another report from the Daily Mail, the Whites' full-back Rasmus Kristensen is in talks with Jose Mourinho's Roma ahead of a potential loan switch to the Serie A giants. Diego Llorente could also end up staying at Stadio Olimpico after spending the second half of the last season in the Italian capital.

Club captain Tyler Adams has been linked with a move away from Elland Road in the past month, with the American having been one of Leeds' better performers last term. Everton are also monitoring the availability of attacking duo Willy Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, as per the report.
