Brendan Rodgers latest as Leicester identify 'top target' to replace former Celtic boss

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has become Leicester City's "top target" to replace Brendan Rodgers, according to a report.

The former Celtic manager is on the brink at the King Power Stadium as a dismal start to the new season leaves the winless Foxes rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after seven games. Reports from England indicate Leicester are reluctantly weighing up a decision on whether or not to fire Rodgers after just over two-and-a-half years in charge.

Leicester made only one notable summer signing and sold first-choice centre-back Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for £70million on transfer deadline day. Pressure has mounted on Rodgers in recent weeks with his side losing six league matches on the spin - including a 6-2 drubbing from Tottenham on Sunday. It emerged on Sunday night that Bees boss Frank and former Burnley manager Sean Dyche were among potential replacements being considered by the Leicester hierarchy.

But now The Sun report Frank has emerged as the club's preferred option if they conclude a change is needed in the dugout. A major factor in any decision is the compensation due the Northern Irishman should he be sacked.

It's reported Leicester would be forced to fork out £10million to pay Rodgers off given he still has three years remaining on a £200,000-a-week contract. Having paid £8m to Celtic to prise him away from Glasgow in February 2019, it would take the club's total outlay on the former Liverpool manager to a staggering £18m.
