Brenda Edwards became visibly emotional on Thursday's Loose Women as she watched a clip of Denise Welch 's son singing.
Matthew Healy is the singer of the band The 1975 and wrote a song called She Lays Down about his mother's depression.
During a discussion on the latest edition of the ITV show, Denise, 64, chatted with her co-stars Kaye Adams, Coleen Nolan and Brenda about whether or not you should tell your children when you're ill.
Referring to her past mental health problems, Denise said: "Matthew was used to mum being very poorly in bed. but it's interesting when kids grow up, how what you tell them and how they've processed it manifests.
"Obviously with my eldest child, he's a singer and songwriter, and in this instance he wrote a song called She Lays Down and it's basically... I told him when he was older and he could understand it, that depression robs you of the ability to love and I said that I used to lie down on the bedroom floor, and I'm not religious, but pray to whatever to help me to be able to love my child again.
"And that's why he wrote 'She Lays Down'," Denise continued as she read out some of the lyrics to the song.
Kaye, 59, then asked Denise if it was okay if they played a clip of 33-year-old Matty singing the song.
As the video was played, the camera panned to both Denise and Brenda watching it, both with very sombre faces.
When the camera cut back to the studio, Denise said: "That's really emotional isn't it? Wow, I don't think I've ever seen that clip."
Brenda had her back slightly turned away from the camera, and noticing that her friend was upset, Denise reached out a hand to comfort Brenda - who lost her son Jamal earlier this year.
Giving Brenda time to compose herself, Coleen picked up the conversation and said: "It's good that Matty was able to express it in music and words coz some kids don't have that."
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
