One Vera fan has earned the praise of fans, the creator and even DCI Stanhope herself after sharing snaps of a crocheted doll gift she has made.
In a tweet to Brenda Blethyn, keen crocheter Eleanor Chafer said: “My sister asked me to crochet a DCI Vera doll for her fiance, as they are both big fans of the show. Thought you might like to see how it turned out.”
The doll, featuring Vera in her iconic hat, mac and red scarf, complete with little boots, was an instant hit. The Oscar-nominated actress praised the work, saying “This is amazing work, particularly like the boots! They look so comfortable.”

After sharing the snap, many fans rushed to compliment the crafter’s creation. It even came to the attention of Vera creator Ann Cleeves, who revealed on Twitter that she’d been shown the photo at a screening of the latest instalment of the show.
Others were quick to complement Eleanor’s work. “Love Vera and your design is perfect,” one replied.
Lending a phrase from DCI Stanhope, Leah tweeted: “Gosh, the stitches are just perfect. Great work, Pet.”
“Absolutely brilliant and such a good likeness of our beloved Vera,” tweeted another fan. While Angela said: “Wow, that is amazing, you are a very talented chuckie egg!”
“That is absolutely brilliant! Amazing! Incredible! I love it and I want one,” cheered Liz. The doll even attracted attention across the globe as Lin praised: “This is brilliant work. Huge fan from across the pond here!”
Many viewers, also keen crocheters themselves, will be pleased to hear that Eleanor, who created the pattern for the doll herself, will be sharing it with others via her Etsy store, CrochetByEleanor. Replying to some impressed fans on Twitter, Eleanor said “I made up the pattern myself but after all the interest I am writing it down.”
