Three teenagers have been arrested by detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of Kyle Hackland, who tragically died on Tuesday (November 22). Two males are in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder, with a third male arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of an offensive weapon and affray.
Police raced to the scene of the stabbing on Southlea Road in Withington, south Manchester on Tuesday morning.. Kyle, 17, was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.
A major murder investigation was launched by police, with officers remaining at the scene as enquiries continued into his death.
In an update on Thursday, (November 24), Greater Manchester Police said two teenagers handed themselves in. One at North Manchester Station at 11am on Thursday, and the other at Cheadle Heath Police Station at around 2.30pm. Both are in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.
Another teenager was also arrested at an address in Wythenshawe at around 1pm, also on Thursday. He remains in custody for questioning after being arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and affray.
GMP’s Major Incident Team have been conducting the investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident. Officers have also been patrolling the neighbouring area to reassure the community.
Detective Superintendent Neil Jones of GMP’s South Manchester Division has said “There are a number of enquiries being conducted to establish the events that occurred in the lead up to this tragic incident, but these arrests are an important step in our investigation and providing justice for the victim’s family and friends.
“As always, the information the public provide us is crucial to our investigation and I urge anyone who may have information about this heart-breaking incident to please come forward and tell the police.”
On Wednesday night, Kyle's family paid heartfelt tribute to him, saying their life 'would never be the same without him'. They added: “We are devastated by the death of our beloved Kyle. He was such a kind and well-mannered young boy who always looked out for his family – never failing to say “love you” as he walked out the door.
“There are no words that can even begin to describe the pain we feel. We have always been such a close family, and this has shattered us all. He will forever be missed as a beautiful son as well as a caring and helpful big brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Life will never be the same without him, we are completely broken."
