Tottenham have announced the loan move of Sergio Reguilon to Atletico Madrid, for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign, ahead of the summer transfer window deadline. The Spaniard has been out of favour in Antonio Conte's squad, not being part of the pre-season matches or the team now the season has begun.
The defender would've struggled for regular game time this season, especially with the arrival of Ivan Perisic, along with Ryan Sessegnon's recent bright performances. Therefore, a move away seemed more of a case of when, rather than if.
The 25-year-old made arrived in N17 a couple of seasons ago and has made 67 appearances for Spurs. However he struggled to make the adaptation from a full-back to a wing-back, which hasn't helped his case under Conte.

There were thoughts that Reguilon may return to Real Madrid, with the Spanish side having a final chance to activate their buy-back clause. However, the defender has instead got his move confirmed to the other Madrid side.
football.london reported on Friday that Atletico were the latest club to hold interest in the defender, with Lazio and Napoli also keen. Fabrizio Romano then reported that the Spaniard would fly to his home nation on Tuesday to finalise his deal.
Atletico currently sit sixth in La Liga after winning two of their first three matches. There will be hope that Reguilon can thrive when returning to his home country so that if he did return to Tottenham next summer, the 25-year-old would've developed and improved as a player, but only time will tell.
