Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signs for Barcelona as Arsenal exit confirmed

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed for Barcelona after a four-year stint at Arsenal.

football.london had reported that his preference is to stay in Europe, and the Gabon international has got his wish, joining the Blaugrana on Monday night.

Aubameyang hadn't featured for Arsenal since December following a disciplinary breach, an incident that resulted in him being stripped of the Gunners' captaincy.

The 32-year-old was then the subject of interest from a number of clubs, with two outfits in Saudi Arabia willing to cover his salary until the end of the season.

However, Aubameyang, who found the net 92 times in an Arsenal shirt in just 163 appearances, has now completed a move to the Catalan giants.

The former Borussia Dortmund star's move to the Camp Nou looked to be off as the two clubs were unable to come to an agreement but a breakthrough was eventually made on Monday evening.

Getting the veteran frontman's £350,000 per week salary off the wage bill was hugely important for technical director Edu just 16 months after Aubameyang penned the bumper new deal back in September 2020.

Upon signing the contract, the prolific hitman claimed that he belonged at the north London club and vowed to become a Gunners legend.

"Everybody knows how special this club is, I have seen incredible players, passionate players, Invincible players," he said.

"I dream of being one of them, amongst the best, and staying in the hearts of the fans forever.

"I want to become an Arsenal legend just like Thierry, Wrighty, Adams and Bergkamp - too many to mention.

"My dad is my biggest inspiration, he was captain of his club and his country so it means so much to me to be the captain of this special club.

"I want to leave a legacy, this is where I belong, this is my family."
