BREAKING: Homes wake up without water in town

Residents in parts of Leigh have woken up without water this morning. United Utilities says an ongoing issue is affecting homes in the WN7 postcode area, causing low water pressure for some residents, while others have no water at all.

The company says the issue was first reported at 7.07am today (April 29). It is not currently known when the problem will be resolved.

United Utilities has apologised to customers who are affected. In a post on the company's website, a United Utilities spokesperson said: "We're currently investigating a problem in your area, which may mean you have no water, or low water pressure.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience this is causing, we are working as quickly as we can to get this sorted and have your taps flowing again. We will provide you with an update once we know more."

Homes in the Westleigh area are among those which have been worst affected by the issue so far. Residents have also reported having no water, or low pressure, in the Atherleigh and Hindley Green areas.

United Utilities has been carrying out engineering works in the Westleigh area over the past week. A burst water main affected Nel Pan Lane in the early hours of Tuesday morning, which United Utilities says was caused by 'a fault on the local water pressure management system'.
