After much speculation, the Hornets took Brandon Miller with the second pick of the draft, pairing the former Alabama forward with LaMelo Ball. Charlotte could have taken guard Scoot Henderson, but seemed to believe that Miller fit better with Ball.
While speaking with the media, Miller gave his thoughts on his new teammate, saying that he and Ball already connected at his workout.
“LaMelo, man, that’s definitely one of the guys. He made me feel like a little brother away from home,” Miller said, via Alex Kennedy. “I feel like we’re always going to be together. Just seeing him at my workout...[it was] a dream come true.”
In his lone year at Alabama, Miller played in 37 games and averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for the nation’s best regular season team.
As for Ball, he has established himself as a franchise cornerstone for Charlotte, averaging at least 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds in each of the last two seasons. However, he played in just 36 games last year as he dealt with a fractured ankle.
If Ball and Miller can develop chemistry, the Hornets hope that they can be a dynamic duo to help bring the franchise back to relevance.
