Brandon Hill Nature Reserve is Bristol's best park according to Trip Advisor reviewers

Here in Bristol there are plenty of parks and outdoor places to visit, from the parks around the Blaise Castle Estate to Bennett’s Patch and White’s Paddock, Bristol has it all. While they are all beautiful places to visit and explore, only one can get the top spot on Tripadvisor’s list of best Nature and Wildlife areas and that place goes to the Brandon Hill Nature Park.

Located close to Park Street this 30 year old nature reserve has nearly five acres of land for visitors to explore. First created in 1980, when Avon Wildlife Trust partnered with Bristol City Council, Brandon Hill is believed to be the oldest public park in the country.

With Cabot Tower at the summit of the hill, visitors are provided with beautiful views across the entirety of the city and it seems they can't stop raving about it on Trip Advisor. People are keen to recommend it to families and dog walkers as well as highlighting it as a great picnic spot.

One Trip Advisor user, JRMADA, said “This is a beautiful green area for all to enjoy. We saw families with small children and people out with their pets. This is a great place for a picnic with friends and/or loved ones. There is plenty of grass and benches for one to rest and enjoy the area. There is no entry fee. The Cabot Tower is there, so this is an added bonus. It is hilly, so perhaps not ideal for a stroll, but you can make that call. We spent time here and enjoyed it.”

V4832QNpa said "Beautiful scenery. Not for the unfit though. Very steep hills with lovely views. There are lots of benches to sit down for breaks of needed.” While LaylaTW11 said she thought it was “A lovely green space which provides good views of the city below. Plenty of seats and friendly, well-behaved dogs with their owners. Beautiful lilly pond too.”

Finally, from macedonboy gave other reviewers a small history background of the park, “Brandon Hill is the oldest park in Bristol. It’s just about the most hilly park I can remember walking in, but it does mean climbing to the summit means you can enjoy great views over the city and Harbourside area. Also at the summit is Cabot Tower, a monument to John Cabot who set sail from Bristol centuries ago on his voyages of discovery.”

It seems that despite the hills and the urban location, people really enjoy visiting Brandon Hill Nature Park when visiting the city.
