Bradley Walsh shares details of sweet on-screen tribute to his grandad that viewers didn't realise

Bradley Walsh revealed a sweet detail about his Pop Larkin costume when he appeared on The One Show on Tuesday, October 11. The Chase host and actor, 62, chatted to Jermaine Jenas and Lauren Lavern about ITV drama series The Larkins, which returns for its second series on Sunday, October 16.

Bradley explained that, in the show, his character wears his real life grandfather's hat, which was bought sometime around the Second World War. Upon being shown a photograph of him wearing it in The Larkins, Bradley said: "That's my grandfather's hat. They all worked in East London on the docks of South London and that's the hat that he used to wear."

He added: "After my grandfather died, that was the only thing I wanted from the house," before recalling how he remembers his relative wearing the hat. "I used to wear that hat as a kid and so, my Uncle Lou gave me that, so that came with me and it's in the show." Host Lauren commented on how it was a "lovely touch" to include it in the new series.

After the highly successful first series, which was famously adapted from the much-loved novel The Darling Buds of May, Bradley Walsh and Joanna Scanlan reprise their roles as the beloved couple Pop and Ma Larkin in series two.

According to ITV, the premise of the new series reads: "The new series sees the arrival of a new Reverend in the village and, in stark contrast to the old Vicar, he set hearts a flutter, including Primrose Larkin’s (Lydia Page). Primrose, now finished with school, is intent on taking the journalistic world by storm, but could it be love with the handsome Reverend Candy (Maxim Ays)?

"Meanwhile, following the excitement of Mariette (Joelle Ray) and Charley’s (Tok Stephen) wedding, the local gossip quickly turns to the other new arrivals in the Village.

"A new out-of-town family, the Jerebohms (Morgana Robinson and Julian Rhind Tutt), have no sooner made their introductions than they are at war with Ma and Pop, with devastating consequences for the Larkin clan." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
