Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Zahara Jolie-Pitt is now officially Zahara Jolie after legally dropping her father’s last name.
The 21-year-old will now go by “Zahara Marley Jolie,” according to court documents obtained by The Independent, which show a California judge approved the name change without objection.
The Independent has contacted Pitt’s representatives for comment.
Pitt, 62, and Angelina, 51, share six children: Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and 18-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. The couple, who met while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith, began dating in 2005, married in 2014 and separated two years later. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024.
Zahara is now the third of Pitt’s children to legally remove his surname from their’s. She follows in the footsteps of Shiloh, who filed to drop Pitt’s name on her 18th birthday back in 2024 and Maddox, whose name change became official earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Vivienne filed to change her name from “Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt” to “Vivienne Marcheline Jolie” on her 18th birthday this past July. Her name change petition court hearing is set for November 2.
The name changes come 10 years after an alleged altercation involving Pitt and his family onboard a private jet from France to Los Angeles in 2016, which Jolie previously claimed led to their divorce.
In court documents after she filed for divorce in 2016, Jolie accused Pitt of physical and emotional abuse on board the flight, which Pitt denied. He was later investigated and cleared by multiple agencies. Pitt, meanwhile, has accused his ex-wife of alienating their six children against him, which Jolie has denied.
In 2023, a scathing Father’s Day post, reportedly from Pax’s private Instagram account, emerged in which he said to his adoptive dad: “Happy Father’s Day to this world class a***hole. You time and time and again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person.”
When Shiloh filed to change her name in 2024, her lawyer Peter Levine said in a statement shared with People that she had “made an independent and significant decision following painful events.”
Pitt has largely remained tight-lipped about his relationship with his children, rarely addressing the reported estrangement publicly.
However, in a recent interview with Esquire, he revealed he had felt suicidal during “one little period” of his life.
“The pain was so oppressive that – I wasn’t going to act on this, but I could feel – I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief,” he said.
Asked by the interviewer what sparked his suicidal feelings, Pitt replied: “Family stuff. We could leave it at that.”
