The boyfriend of a London banker found beaten to death will be extradited back to the UK after being arrested in Kenya.

Marianne Kilonzi, 43, was found dead with a head injury in her riverside Woolwich flat last year.

Brian Kiprop Kiplagat, 39, was detained in Kenya on June 10 after attempting to travel to Tanzania.

It follows a 16-month international manhunt.

He appeared at the Milimani law courts earlier this month and is now due to be returned to the UK for questioning over the killing.

It comes after an extradition request by UK officials was granted.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said: “Upon a comprehensive review of the extradition request and the supporting evidentiary material, the DPP has directed that extradition proceedings be instituted before the courts in Kenya.”

Ms Kilonzi attended university in Nairobi before joining Citibank in Kenya.

She was then transferred to work with the company in London in 2023.

A post-mortem found she died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Citibank said last year: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne's family and friends during this difficult time.”
