Boy with 'the biggest heart' helping homeless after seeing numbers on street

An 11 year old boy with "the biggest heart" has been working hard to help homeless people in the city of Nottingham. Leonardo Laurenti has been concerned about the number of people sleeping rough on the streets.

His mum, Louise Laurenti, said: "He has always been a caring boy, but more recently when we have been in the city centre it has made him very upset to see all the homeless people on the streets.

"We always try to buy them a sandwich and drink and at times it made him cry and ask why is this happening Mum?" A few months ago Leonardo decided he wanted to do something to help, and tried to organise a feed the homeless event at his local community centre.

Louise explained: "He rang around all our friends who could help with different areas he needed support on eg catering and got them on board. Sadly we could not go ahead with it due to safeguarding issues.

"However, instead he rallied around to get food donations and warm clothing to give to Emmanuel House. Not stopping there, last night our family members who help out with a local notts charity called Guru Nanak's Mission handing out hot food, took him with them and he got to hand out the food himself.

"I think he is shining example of young person and what they should do to help others." Guru Nanak's Mission is a charity in Nottingham that provides freshly prepared meals, hot drinks and puddings to individuals and hubs across Nottingham.

They ensure that all the food is vegetarian and eggless so that nobody has to go without a hot meal.
