Boy George is to be presented with vegan options for I'm A Celebrity trials

I'm A Celebrity will offer vegan alternatives for trials to accommodate this year's contestants.

Boy George has been public about his vegan preference for years but his upcoming stint on the ITV show doesn't appear to be changing that anytime soon. One of the staple bushtucker trials consists of the campmates chowing down on everything from giant spiders and witchetty grubs but producers insist it won't be for everyone.

The show's executive producer, Olly Nash, said: "We have always got alternatives if people are vegan or vegetarian and either need to eat in camp, and don't want to eat the main meal, or for the trials."

Viewers have complained about the situation in previous years as the show offered seemingly more difficult trials to other campmates.

In 2020, Coronation Street's Beverley Callard managed to avoid animal-based food such as lambs' brains because of her vegan preference. DJ Jordan North was her partner in crime during the task and was tasked with seemingly much worse plates, including animal testicles.

The alternative won't be a cop-out as the show's producer explained Boy George, and possibly others, may end up facing far worse challenges in the end. He added: "It's actually, weirdly, more stinky and more gross than eating the meat products."
