A man says his three-year-old boy "could have been left without a dad" after he was attacked by a rugby player on a night out.
Michael Heaton was left unconscious and permanently scarred after being subjected to a "needless and cowardly" assault by James Tunstall. The victim's son burst into tears when he first saw him with his injuries, including multiple broken bones.
Liverpool Crown Court heard today, Friday, that Mr Heaton was out with friends in Newton-le-Willows on the evening of March 12 this year. Joanne Cronshaw, prosecuting, said he had been to several bars but was asked to leave one pub at around 11pm due to drunkenness.
