A boy aged eight was killed after being hit by a car yesterday, the Metropolitan Police has said.
Emergency services were called to Green Lanes in Enfield, north London, at 6.43pm on Friday, following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
The little boy was given first aid at the scene and was then taken to hospital, where he later died, officers said.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene, the Met added, but so far there has been no arrest.
The boy's family have been informed and are currently being supported by specially trained officers.
The manager of the Anokhi Indian restaurant on Green Lanes said the boy's dad "collapsed in shock" and medics were trying to wake him up.
He told the Evening Standard: "Our waitress came off the bus and saw it happen and then saw the little boy. I couldn't face going out but my team did. I only saw the dad on the floor.
"He had collapsed in shock. That’s what I saw, the medics were trying to wake him up."
He added: "My staff were all so traumatised when they came back. They all had tears in their eyes, it was awful. We heard that he was their only child."
Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and for any drivers who were in the area at the time of the incident to provide dashcam footage that could help their inquiries.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Detectives are appealing for witnesses and those with dash cam footage to come forward after a boy was killed in a collision in Enfield.
"Police were called at 18:43hrs on Friday, 28 April, following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Green Lanes, N21.
"Emergency services attended. The pedestrian – an eight-year-old boy – was given first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he later died.
"His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
"The driver of the car stopped at the scene. There has been no arrest.
