Boy, 15, undergoes life-saving castration after being beaten by his teachers

A teenager has been beaten so badly by his teachers that he needed an emergency castration procedure.

The pupil, who is in Grade 8 - the equivalent of Year 9 in the UK - is now recovering after testicle surgery in Kisii, Kenya.

The incident was confirmed by police, who said they had received an assault report from the boy's mum.

She cried out as she accused the educators of changing her son's life forever because he will "never father a child" due to the severity of the assault.

Police chief James Mitugo said the teen was rushed to hospital after the attack on March 24.

Medical examinations showed one of the boy's testicles had been damaged beyond repair, which left doctors no other choice than surgery.

Speaking with local site, Nation, staff at the hospital said his genitals were extremely swollen at the time of admission. Later, they learned he had suffered a "testicular torsion".

"He was brought to us in a critical condition. We performed an emergency operation on him last Friday. He is still recovering, but is too weak to even walk," said a nurse.

Testicular torsion, which is most common between the ages of 12 and 18, happens when the organ is rotated. It is usually caused by injuries to the area.

By rotating, the cord that brings blood to the scrotum is effectively clamped, causing reduced blood flow. It causes extreme pain and swelling and often requires surgery.

The headteacher is said to have been involved in the beating, as was his maths teacher.

It came after the boy insulted a girl classmate during an argument, reports say.

A police investigation has been launched and education officials are conducting an inspection of the school.

It is the second case of its kind in Kenya after a teacher told a group of Grade Four pupils to pin down one of their fellow classmates so he could beat him more easily. He was left seriously injured.

Amid the surge in teacher beatings, parents and members of the public have been demanding action from the Ministry of Education.
