A 12-year-old boy has suffered injuries to his head and body after a firework exploded in a garden today.
The child was rushed to hospital by ambulance from a house in Huyton, Merseyside at roughly 2.45pm.
Paramedics also treated a person who had fainted, said police.
Officers from Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue (MFRS) have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
In a statement, the force said: "We can confirm we received a report that a child had been injured as a result of a firework being set alight in Huyton today, Sunday 25 September.
"At around 2.45pm it was reported that a 12-year-old boy was injured in the head and body from a firework in the garden of a property on Pennard Avenue.
"Ambulance attended and has taken the child to hospital for treatment."
Pictures showed a police cordon in place this afternoon as officers probed the incident.
Chief Inspector Gary O’Rourke said: “Enquiries are in the very early stages to establish the circumstances into how the 12-year-old boy was injured by a firework.
“A full enquiry by Merseyside Police and MFRS is taking place to establish the facts.”
