Boy, 11, rushed to hospital after being hit by van as police appeal for witnesses

An 11-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a van in Liverpool.

Police were called to reports of a crash in the Kensington area at around 8pm yesterday, and found a boy had been knocked down by a Ford Transit van.

The youngster was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he remains in a serious condition.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries, said Merseyside Police. No arrests have been made.

At least five police vehicles were at the scene last night, with about half a dozen officers attending.

The road was closed off in both directions.

Officers carried out door-to-door enquiries inside the cordon, and were appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

One man who passed the scene told the Liverpool Echo that he would "say a prayer" for the young boy.

This morning, a Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed that the boy remains in hospital in a serious condition.

In a statement last night, the force urged anyone with information to get in touch.
