Botswana Sprinter Letsile Tebogo Sets New Personal Best Record

Personal best time of 44.29 seconds in 400m event.

Botswana sprinter Letsile Tebogo recently set a new personal best time in the 400-meter event, finishing in 44.29 at the ASA Grand Prix in Pretoria. This impressive performance saw him shave off seconds from his previous best time of 44.75. Tebogo, the 300-meter world record holder, was followed by Anthony Pesela and Tumo Statago Van Wyk who secured the second and third positions, respectively.

After the race, Tebogo took to social media to share his thoughts, emphasizing the importance of stepping out of one's comfort zone. He expressed his intention to participate in Diamond League meets to build confidence for the upcoming Paris Olympics. This victory marks his second significant win this season, following his world record-breaking performance in the 300-meter event earlier this year.

During the 2023 track season, Tebogo has been a formidable competitor against reigning world champion Noah Lyles. At the World Athletics Championships, Tebogo clinched a silver in the 100m and a bronze in the 200m, while Lyles secured gold for the U.S.A. Notably, former Olympic Champion Justin Gatlin has praised Tebogo's potential to make a significant impact on the 200-meter world, citing his maturation and strength as key factors.

Gatlin also likened Tebogo's technique on the track to that of legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, hinting at the young athlete's promising future in international events. With Tebogo, Lyles, and Christian Coleman showcasing strong performances early in the season, the 100-meter and 200-meter lineups at the Paris Olympics are set to be highly competitive and captivating for fans worldwide.
