Bosses of popular Ayr gaming shop staying tight-lipped on potential store closure

High Street bosses are tight-lipped on plans for the future of a popular Ayrshire gaming shop.

Game in Ayr has 'store closing' signs displayed on its windows with customers being told 'all stock must go' – but bosses have refused to confirm what their next move is.

It is rumoured the outlet is on the move with many Game stores now emigrating to be part of Sports Direct chains; with that brand part of the Frasers Group owned by tycoon Mike Ashley.

Ayrshire Live has made attempts to contact the Frasers Group on several occasions but not received any response.

The gaming shop on Ayr High Street is one of three units with ‘To Let’ signs, with Clintons Cards and The Works also indicating their leases are up.

Earlier this month, we told how greetings card giant Clintons intended to continue trading in Ayr despite social media rumours sparking fears they were on the move.

Clintons then said they were in the process of negotiating their lease in the High Street.

But mystery surrounds the future of stationery store The Works who also have a closing down sale announcement displayed in their windows.

The store is said to be on the move from the High Street but there is no confirmation of when it will be next to exit Ayr’s main thoroughfare. The firm was unable to share more information due to ‘legal reasons’.

A spokesperson for The Works told Ayrshire Live that its closing down sale was a common sale run in January.

The spokesperson added: “We’re currently looking into options for the relocation of our Ayr store.”
