Boris Johnson will be grilled by MPs on Sue Gray report on Monday at 3.30pm

Boris Johnson will appear in front of MPs on Monday afternoon to be grilled on the findings of the Sue Gray report.

Downing Street confirmed on Monday morning that the report had been received and will be published shortly on the gov.uk website and in the House of Commons library for MPs.

The exact time of the Prime Minister's appearance will be negotiated with the Commons Speaker but Ministerial statements usually begin in the chamber about 3.30pm.

The report has been controversially redacted after Met Police requested that details of events they are investigating in parallel should not be published.

Downing Street promised to publish the report “as seen” and Downing Street has not had sight of the redacted parts of the investigation, the PM’s spokesman said.

The spokesman said: “We can confirm that Sue Gray has provided an update to the Prime Minister. The findings will be published and made available to the Commons library and on gov.uk this afternoon.”

But Downing Street but did not commit to publish a fuller version of the report in the future.

Asked why the release has so far been characterised as an “update”, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “It’s a reflection of the fact there is an ongoing police investigation and the Met have been clear about what their expectations are about what can or cannot be put in the public domain while that’s ongoing.”

The offiicial said Johnson spoke “briefly” to Sue Gray on Sunday afternoon to be told the report was on its way.

He added: “I think they briefly discussed the findings. I don’t know exactly what they discussed.”

The PM's statement and cross-examination by MPs is expected to last between an hour and 90 minutes.
