Boost for holidaymakers as travel rules change for Cyprus and Bahrain - and Air Canada resumes UK flights

More countries are easing their entry requirements as international travel starts to bounce back following the pandemic.

Australia has reopened its borders to holidaymakers this week, while the EU has announced it will scrap the requirement for fully-vaccinated holidaymakers to take a coronavirus test.

Popular holiday destination Cyprus is the latest country to ease its travel restrictions.

Fully-vaccinated Brits travelling to the country will no longer need to have proof of a negative pre-departure Covid test to enter Cyprus, WalesOnline reports.

The rule change came into force this week but the latest guidelines state all travellers aged 12 and above must still take a PCR test on arrival at the airport, costing tourists up to £15 each.

Arrivals must self-isolate in their accommodation until results are received, which should be within three hours. If a test comes back positive, visitors must remain in isolation and await instructions from the Cypriot Ministry of Health.

The country will also instruct some tourists to take a further free rapid Covid test 72 hours after arrival at a mobile unit - although those who have already had the booster jab are exempt from the extra tests.

Meanwhile, Bahrain has axed the rule forcing travellers to take a PCR test on arrival and quarantine regulations have also been lifted.

UK Foreign Office travel advice has been updated to contain the latest guidelines.

There is also good news for people in the UK wanting to travel to Canada within the next few months.

The nation's flag carrier Air Canada is resuming routes to the UK and Ireland with services between Halifax, Nova Scotia, and London Heathrow, beginning from April 30.

Further routes between Toronto and both Manchester and Edinburgh resume from May 30 with flights between Vancouver and Dublin starting again from June 1 with the route between Montreal and Dublin starting from June 2.
