Bonnie Tyler issues explanation after ITV This Morning performance baffles fans

ITV This Morning viewers say they have been left 'disappointed' and confused by a performance by Bonnie Tyler on the show on Wednesday, April 12. The iconic star has now offered an explanation and apology to fans.

Bonnie Tyler joined presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle for the popular morning programme earlier this week. She had already given fans the heads up about the appearance telling followers on social media that she would be celebrating 40 years of Total Eclipse of the Heart with a live performance on This Morning at 12.15. The 80s hit had reached number one in the UK alongside Tyler's platinum-selling album 'Faster Than the Speed of Night' in 1983.

However, the performance was not as fans had expected. While the 71-year-old singer reflected on her almost five-decade long career during the interview, when she took to the stage fans were left baffled. Expecting to see the star belt out the celebrated hit, fans claimed the icon was miming. Bonnie has now addressed the accusations and reaction with an apology.

Sparking debate on Twitter as the show aired, one person wrote: “Bonnie Tyler can sing unfortunately she can't mime.” Another said: "Wow what a let down with lip sync Bonnie Tyler", with a third adding “Bonnie Tyler voice has gone she can only mime now". The reaction continued: "One of the best voices and she's miming. That's so disappointing."

While some came to her defence on social media, the star herself gave an explanation for the move via Twitter. A statement from her manager read: "Bonnie is incredibly disappointed that she had to lip sync on ITV’s This Morning today”. Explaining further, the statement said that she had a cold which since the interview had got worse, adding that she can now “hardly speak at all”.

Continuing, it said: "She woke up with a terribly bad sore throat, which was obvious from her speaking voice during the interview, and at rehearsals it was clear she couldn’t sing today. So rather than let TV and her fans down at the last moment she decided to mime instead. In fact I have just spoken to her on the phone and it’s got a lot worse, she can hardly speak at all now."

However, the star was "looking forward to her voice being back to normal" soon. Tyler's representative said: “Everyone should be assured that Bonnie’s voice is still very strong when she doesn’t have a cold, as anyone coming to any of her live shows this year will be able to hear for themselves.

“She is very sorry if anyone felt let down by her having to mime, she actually hates miming and never usually does it, and is looking forward to her voice being back to its normal strength very soon.”

Taking to Twitter, Bonnie added: "A cold is a singer's worst enemy, but hoping to be on the mend real soon".
