Sydney’s famous Bondi lifeguards have been dealt a rough start to the summer after their beach-side tower was allegedly broken into and two emergency buggies stolen.
Police were called to the beach just before 5am on Friday to reports of the alleged break and enter.
“One of the beach buggies was located on Bondi Beach, the other remains outstanding,” a New South Wales police spokesperson said.
“Police established a crime scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.”
One of the buggies – relied on for emergency services – was found early in the morning, bogged in the sand.
The Bondi lifeguards are known internationally thanks to the TV show Bondi Rescue, which has documented their lives and work on the popular Sydney beach since 2006.
Photos posted to the Bondi lifeguards social media showed the silver door to the garage under the tower damaged.
“Last night our tower was broken into and one of the buggies ended up being bogged on the beach and the other is still missing,” the life-savers posted.
“If anyone in the Bondi area has any information or seen our missing bike please contact the Bondi police.
“This is an emergency vehicle and we need it back!”
Another Bondi lifeguards page posted the picture saying that it was “not a great start to summer for us”.
The federal MP for Wentworth, Allegra Spender, called on help from the public to find the vehicles.
“If anyone in the Bondi area has any information, they are asking that you please contact the Bondi police,” she wrote on social media.
