Bolton Wanderers goal hero Dion Charles' Shrewsbury Town winner tops off week of daughter's birth

Dion Charles admits scoring a stunning winner for Bolton Wanderers capped off a great week for him after becoming a father once more.

The January transfer window signing from Accrington Stanley bagged his first goal for Wanderers with a late winner versus Shrewsbury Town this afternoon.

The ball sat up for the striker who then thrashed home past a motionless Marko Marosi to send more than 1,600 travelling Wanderers fans into raptures in a 1-0 victory.

It has been a busy week for Charles who became a father again on Thursday evening to a daughter named Hattie.

Charles believes the goal has topped the past seven days off but believes the reaction to the winner showed how much it meant to him and his teammates as well as the Wanderers fans with the late nature of the three points.

And Charles believes the work ethic of himself and the squad will ensure that results will continue to flow in the coming weeks.

He said: “Definitely. That’s topped it off. It’s been a really good week for me.

“That goal there today just topped off quite a good week for myself and my family, but you could just see how much it meant to the boys and the fans.

"While I’m at this club, that’s the sort of performances that I’ll demand off myself and the players just for that and it just shows what it means to everyone at the club, so long may it continue.

“It was a great strike but to a man today, the subs that came on and the boys that started, everyone worked their socks off for one another and that’s the minimum that we need to be at this football club and the results will come.

"We’ve got such a talented squad in that dressing room and everyone wants to play and if we keep putting in performances like that, we won’t be far off.”
