A woman who stole hundreds of pounds from elderly victims in a scam involving pretending to be a police officer has been locked up.
In September last year Emma Fuggles, 45, and Kathleen Perry, 57, dressed as cops and visited a home in Maidstone, Kent.
The pair convinced the man he was a suspect for a range of offences and said he would be arrested if he did not hand over his bank card and pin number.
They left after assuring him they would call their sergeant to discuss the bogus case with the victim.
Fuggles, 45, and her accomplice withdrew £500, and returned the next day but fled when the man said he had called police.
Days later Fuggles visited a second home posing as a housing officer and told him a neighbour had ordered bedding which needed paying for.
Assuring him the false neighbour’s family would reimburse him, she left with the 69-year-old’s bank card and withdrew £150 from his bank account.
When she returned his care assistant demanded identification which the crook said she would retrieve from her car, but instead drove away.
Fuggles was later arrested and charged for burglary, two counts of theft, and two counts of fraud which she later admitted in court.
She appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, February 10, where she was sentenced to two years and four months’ imprisonment.
At an earlier hearing one of the victims said: “I didn't give permission to use the card.
“I thought she was taking it to her sergeant to check.'
Investigating officer, DC Mark Beeching of Maidstone CID said: “Fuggles repeatedly exploited vulnerable members of the community for her own financial gain.
“What’s worse, in both instances she brazenly returned to the scene of the crime to take further advantage of them.
“Fuggles is a prolific offender with a history of criminal activity, so it is right that she serves time behind bars after failing to amend her ways.”
Perry was arrested and charged with theft and fraud for the same instances and remanded in custody, reported Kent Online.
However she refused to attend court for pretrial and in her absence was later found guilty.
