A BMW convertible was washed out to sea after the owner parked the motor on the beach.
A coastguard was heard saying: "You can't park there," as the vehicle begins to drifted away off Trevaunance Beach, Cornwall on Sunday morning, reports Hull Live.
St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team were alerted to the incident at around 8.30am, and arrived to check there was nobody in the motor.
They remained on scene whilst recovery efforts took place and the vehicle was taken away in a truck off the beach.
People lined up on social media to poke fun at the BMW’s owner after the footage was shared on Facebook.
One joked: “The lengths some people will go to to avoid the £3 car park fee!”
Another added: “Did someone forget to tell the tide that BMWs can park anywhere they want?” A third penned: “Honestly, how do you keep a straight face and not point and laugh at them.”
While another said: “Muppets. Never learn. Good entertainment.” Others on social media were angry that the car had been allowed to float out the sea and blasted the owner for wasting valuable coastguard resources.
One wrote: “I hope St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team send them a bill to cover all their costs plus a large donation!! Complete waste of their time and resources.”
Another said: “Why? Why? Why??? Such a waste of time and resources, this makes me sooooo cross!”
A spokesperson from St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue said: “Team tasked to the Trevaunance Beach car wash to make sure all occupants were out of the vehicle and safe.
We remained on scene whilst recovery efforts were made and the vehicle was finally removed. Team stood down and returned to station at 1019hrs. They added: “You can’t park there sir!”
