Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster are joining horror game Behaviour Interactive to create a Dead by Daylight movie (thanks, Variety). Atomic Monster founder James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) and Blumhouse founder Jason Blum (The Purge, Get Out) are involved in the project, though neither said in what capacity.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the Dead by Daylight universe,” Stephen Mulrooney, executive Behaviour’s executive vice president. “At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight’s killer entrance onto the big screen.”
“In Dead by Daylight, the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains — perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation,” Wan said in a statement.
Production of the multiplayer game adaptation is still in its very early stages. The studios are currently looking for screenwriters and a director to lead the project.
The Dead by Daylight movie announcement is the latest in a string of video game adaptations, including Fallout, Tomb Raider, and God of War TV series, the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, just to name a few.
Blumhouse will also be making and publishing horror games of its own in the near future under its newly-announced Blumhouse Games subsidiary.
