‘Block him’: Austin woman visits date’s apartment, notices no soap in his shower. The plot twist after she confronts him leaves her ‘still in shock’

Dating can bring on a lot of anxiety. You’re meeting and getting to know new people, hoping it works out with your radar on high alert for any red flags. While it’s common to stop seeing someone because of relationship history, compatibility, and habits, hygiene can significantly impact a courtship.

TikTok creator Ashley Raymond (@ashleylaurenraymond) found herself in what people would commonly consider a ‘smelly’ situation with a man she was going out with.

A New Dating Fear Uncovered

“So, I’ve been dating in Austin. It’s terrible, but I didn’t see this one coming,” she says as she stands in her kitchen. Then, she recalls her horror story to 3.3 million viewers.

“The first time I go to this guy’s apartment. We’ve gone on a few dates, and I noticed he doesn’t have soap in his shower,” she says. Attributing it to running out, she shrugs it off. After a month passes, she notices it again.

“We’ve been going on other dates. We go to his apartment, I look in the shower, still no soap,” the content creator shares. “This is getting weird.”

However, Raymond confronts him. “I say, ‘Hey. Do you have any soap?’” she recounts. The date’s answer? “‘Oh. I ran out. I don’t have any soap right now,’” she remembers him replying. “‘I’ve been using hot water.’”

Revealing this is the same observation she had the month before, he confesses. “He eventually admits that just using hot water is fine to wash your body in his mind,” she says. “I told him that I didn’t agree with that and that he needed to get some soap.”

During another visit to the man’s apartment, the content creator found a bottle of soap, as requested. But there is just one problem.

“The soap was completely full,” Raymond recalls. “I asked him if he used the soap, and he said yes.”  When she checks to soap for herself, she caught him in a lie. “I unscrewed the cap, the little foil thingy is still on the soap,” she says.

“So, that’s how my dating life is going,” Raymond concludes.

To this day, she is still recovering from that revelation. “I am still in shock,” the content creator writes in the caption, accompanied by a female facepalm emoji.

Viewers’ flabbers were gasted

Raymond’s storytime drew in a massive 3.5 million viewers. Many were left with more confusion than clarity.

“ How is this not a deal breaker immediately?” one viewer questioned.

“You went back after he told you he doesn’t wash with soap?” another asked.

“I don’t understand how this even happens,” a third remarked.

Meanwhile, mothers entered the chat, sharing how the interaction was reminiscent of dealing with their kids.

“This sounds like a conversation I’d have with my 9 year old,” one commenter stated.

“Me when I ask my kids if they brushed their teeth,” a second said.

Is Soap Necessary For Basic Shower Hygiene?

It’s a common assumption that soap is synonymous with cleanliness. But that isn’t always the case. According to Healthline, rinsing for a few minutes effectively removes the day’s dirt and grime. If you’re concerned about body odor, scrubbing your armpits and groin with a cleansing oil does the trick.

However, soap is necessary if you’re extremely sweaty and dirty. Lathering up with soap in every shower can harm the skin barrier and disrupt the natural pH balance, dermatologist Dr. Anthony Rossi told Time Magazine.  Moreover, more soap doesn’t equal more hygiene. In fact, the more soap is used and the harsher the scrub, the more you strip the skin’s oils, creating dryness and sensitivity.
