Blizzard drops Overwatch Jetpack Cat lore and everyone agrees there's something fishy with that feline: "No regular cat would be able to coordinate and operate machinery like that"

Jetpack Cat flying through the air.

Overwatch players have had a week to familiarize themselves with new hero Jetpack Cat's ways, but no one really knows anything about the flying feline's history. The official story is that the support hero Brigitte found her as a stray and gave her that custom jet-propulsion rig, but let's be real, that doesn't exactly clear everything up.

Seemingly in an attempt to calm down the growing chorus of critics demanding answers, Blizzard has released a lore video for Jetpack Cat, and I'm sorry to say it, but they're sticking to their guns. Jetpack Cat's just a cat. Nothing more to see here, they say.

Joking aside, the narration by Brigitte actor Matilda Smedius includes all sorts of neat little meta references to Blizzard's actual conception and development of Jetpack Cat. "For some reason when I rescued this pretty kitty from in-between some rocket parts in the main landing bay, I thought back to some projects that never got off the ground, literally," Brigitte says. "I was so young when I drafted them up."

Later in the video, Brigitte talks about the difficult logistics of safely strapping a jetpack to a domestic housecat. "How to make a joystick that doesn't require opposable thumbs," Brigitte ponders.

This is clearly and quite cleverly Blizzard's way of letting us know they've had plans to bring Jetpack Cat into the game for many years, and only now found a way to make it work. Still, despite this adorable video - and it is adorable - people want the truth.

"Okay, she's gotta be a villain or spy of some kind, no way she's just a cat. Maybe from the smart animals on the Lunar Colony," said one Redditor who knows when their government is deceiving them.

"She’s a villain from Horizon Lunar Colony I’m calling it now," someone else theorized.

Another commenter suggested support hero Moira might know something.

"Moira has an interaction where she says something about her being intelligent. Moira might know more about her origins somehow," they said. "I feel like her being a normal cat was off the table as soon as she was added, no regular cat would be able to coordinate and operate machinery like that."

That is true. I just checked with my two dumb cats and they confirmed they'd have no clue how to fly a jetpack.

Another Redditor came right out and said "the cat is actually Doomfist," referring to one of the game's tank heroes.

"Anyone ever saw his body? You see how the cat dives to the ground so skillfully with her ult just like Meteor Strike? You see how the community is so divided and conflicted over this cat?" they asked. "Only through conflict we evolve."

Whatever's going on with this rotund orange tabby, no one's buying Blizzard's story. Cats are famously sneaky little bastards, so I'm on the spy train. Whether Brigitte's in cahoots, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Sorry.

Even Blizzard's begging you to stop banning Overwatch's Jetpack Cat, and I promise shooting down the furball is easier than it looks
