Blindspot plot
Blindspot follows Hannah Quinn (Beth Alsbury), a disabled woman who monitors the CCTV on a rough estate. One day she notices a man she knows to be a violent criminal lead a woman into a blind spot in the camera coverage and when he emerges again, there’s no sign of the woman who appears to have vanished into thin air. Hannah is convinced she’s been murdered but the apathetic policeman in charge of the case, Tony Warden (Ross Kemp) dismisses her fears. Yet Hannah is determined to find out what really happened in the blind spot and it seems she must put her own life in danger in order to do so.
Blindspot cast — Ross Kemp on playing Tony Warden
In Blindspot, Ross Kemp plays the disinterested cop in charge of the investigation.
"Tony’s flawed and has made mistakes. He’s screwed up in his previous position and has been relocated," reveals Ross. "Even I didn’t know if he was a good guy or not!|
Hannah’s determined to prove what she saw and, as she finds herself in some terrifying situations, she’s forced to team up with Tony. "They have a mutual 'pain in the bum' feeling about each other!" explains Ross. "Their relationship is odd and intriguing."
This drama marks Ross’ return to acting after years making documentaries, and he admits he was nervous. "If you’d said, 'You’ve got to go into a prison or start acting again', I'd probably go, 'I'll take the prison!'" laughs Ross. "It was daunting but I enjoyed it!"
* Ross Kemp shot to fame in his long-running role as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders. He also starred in Extras, Spartacus, A Christmas Carol, The Crooked Man and Ultimate Force but has become better known for his hard-hitting documentaries such as Ross Kemp on Gangs, Ross Kemp Living with..., Ross Kemp in Afghanistan and Ross Kemp: Extreme World.
Beth Alsbury on playing Hannah
In Blindspot, Newcomer Beth Alsbury plays wheelchair-user Hannah who sees the crime on CCTV. Beth told us: "I didn’t think I’d see a script like this until maybe 10 years into my career. There were a lot of firsts for me in this, but it’s the perfect role to show what I’m capable of.
"It was nice Ross was coming to this fresh as well, by returning to acting, so we were there for each other. I grew up sitting on the carpet watching my mum and brother watch EastEnders, so they were ecstatic that he was in this!"
Who else is starring in Blindspot?
Blindspot will have an extensive cast with Crystal Clarke (Sanditon, Black Mirror) playing Hannah's friend Amber, and Sue Vincent (The Madame Blanc Mysteries, Waterloo Road) who is Hannah's cleaner Dolly, while Michelle Bonnard plays Amber’s councillor mum Louisa. Kiran Landa (Coronation Street, Line of Duty, Ackley Bridge) plays Geri. Haylie Jones (Stay Close), Milán Bartha (Moon Knight, Blade Runner 2049) and Lewis Conway (The Forgotten Battle, The Canterville Ghost) will also feature.
